Kids with "flowers"

Kids with "flowers"
I started a tiny plant nursery outside of my house. For a few weeks it was just dirt in recycled water sachets used as seedling pots, but I noticed that all of the neighbors were checking them out and very curious about them. So when I actually planted seeds in them, I decided to make some labels to show what they were. I used index cards, packing tape, sticks, and a sharpie. I printed the name of the plant, drew a picture, and said something about what it was for, then staked them next to the rows of seedling pots.

Francis was hanging around watching and wanting to play with them, so I made one labled "Francis" and drew a taxi on it since he loves cars.

Pretty soon he was bringing the other kids around so each could get one (the funny thing about Francis…he wants to be first in all things, but if I give him something, he invariably goes and finds the other kids and brings them so they can get some, too.)

So I made a bunch of tags for kids that day. They just kept coming. I was surprised that most of the girls wanted a picture of a moto (motorcycle) and some of the boys wanted pictures of flowers.

The next morning I found that my plant labels were all gone! I don’t think the kids understood what they were for and just thought they were extra.

Every once in a while now, Francis asks me to make "flowers"…that’s what he calls the cards-on-a-stick.

The little kids picked me flowers and put them in this AWESOME vase!

This, by the way, is my very first RAW photo that I developed!! Yay for me! 🙂
